Building for different kinds of use.
Every sector asks something different of a contractor. These are the ones we know well, and what each of them demands.
Homes people will live in for decades.
A home is judged every day, by the people who live in it. Residential building demands a quality of finish that survives close inspection: straight lines, quiet services, doors that close properly, joinery that still fits after the first winter.
It also demands an easy relationship with neighbours and, on refurbishments, with the family still living downstairs. We plan deliveries, working hours and dust control around the street as much as the site.
Buildings that have to work on Monday morning.
Office buildings are measured by how well they serve the people at desks and the landlord’s programme: floor plates that flex, services that are quiet and accessible, façades that perform. Coordination between structure, services and fit-out decides whether that happens.
On fit-outs and refreshes in occupied buildings, phasing and out-of-hours working keep businesses running while the work goes on around them.
Fast programmes, exact finishes, open on the date.
Retail construction runs to a launch date that does not move. Shells, unit fit-outs and refits need a contractor who sequences trades tightly, protects finishes that will be seen by thousands of people, and coordinates shopfitters, brand specialists and landlords without drama.
Working in trading centres and on high streets also means careful logistics: deliveries, hoardings, noise and the shops either side.
Spaces that feel effortless because nothing was.
Restaurants, bars and hotels live or die on atmosphere, and atmosphere is built from details: lighting, acoustics, joinery, stone, the way a handrail meets a wall. Behind that sit kitchens, extract, refrigeration and fire strategy, all of which have to be right the first time.
We work with designers and operators who care about those details, and we protect them through to opening night.
Robust, economical and built for the long haul.
Warehouses, workshops and light industrial units need to be strong, simple and quick to build, with slabs that take the loads, envelopes that keep the weather out, and yards, drainage and services that work from day one.
They also need to be safe to build: large frames, heavy plant and lifting operations call for proper planning and disciplined site management.
Safe, calm sites around busy terms.
Schools, colleges and nurseries mean building around children and term times. Safeguarding, segregation of site and school, holiday working and quiet, dust-free sites are conditions of the job, not extras.
The buildings themselves need to be durable and easy to look after, with robust finishes, good daylight and services that can be maintained without disruption.
